What is Midwifery Care, Really?
A closer look at what it means to be seen, supported, and empowered through every stage of pregnancy and birth.
When you hear the word “midwife,” what comes to mind?
For some, it might be a water birth in a quiet room. For others, it’s someone who shows up with a birth kit and calm energy. And while those images aren’t wrong, midwifery care is much more than a birth setting or a job title—it’s a philosophy of care rooted in trust, respect, and relationship.
More Than Medical
As a licensed midwife, I provide all the essential clinical care: monitoring you and your baby’s health, performing labs, offering prenatal visits, supporting birth, and providing postpartum care. But midwifery goes beyond checklists.
It’s about listening deeply—not just to your baby’s heartbeat, but to your voice, your fears, your questions, and your hopes. It’s care that sees you as a whole person, not a chart. One that honors your intuition, your body, and your right to make informed choices about your experience.
A Relationship, Not a Rotation
In midwifery care, you aren’t passed between providers. You work with one midwife throughout your journey—someone who knows your story, your birth plan, and your values. Each prenatal appointment is unhurried, usually lasting an hour, so there’s space to build trust and talk through anything that’s on your heart or mind.
That connection means that by the time labor begins, we’re not strangers. You’re supported by someone who knows you—and who believes in you.
Care That Centers You
Midwifery care is rooted in the belief that birth is a normal, physiological event, not a condition to be managed. My role isn’t to control your birth, but to walk alongside you—equipped, present, and ready to support you with information, tools, and care that adapts to your unique needs.
You are the center of your experience. I’m here to support, guide, and protect that space.
Whether you're planning a homebirth or just exploring your options, I hope this gives you a clearer picture of what midwifery care can offer.
